The International Milling Directory (IMD) has set up camp in Istanbul, Turkey for the 5th International Flour, Semolina, Rice, Corn, Bulghur, Feed Milling Machinery & Pulse, Pasta, Biscuit Technologies Exhibition (or IDMA 2013 for short).

Representatives from all over the milling industry have gathered with thousands of agriculture professionals to make this one of the highlights of 2013′s milling calendar. The IMD, together with sister publication Grain & Feed Milling Technology magazine, will be presenting its wares to industry representatives from 120 countries for the full four days of the show.

If you’re at IDMA, or soon will be, Directory co-ordinator Tom Blacker will be ready to provide information and answer your questions. Why not visit him at the Perendale booth (hall 11, stand A-19)?

Enewsletter column: March 2013

The International Milling Directory (IMD) has had a rather a lot of attention recently. We made waves in Louisville with a successful event. Regular and new members were drawn towards our hundreds of copies of the IMD – the 6 boxes we shipped over were snapped up within 2 days, leaving latecomers on the final day with not a lot of availability!

VIV Asia took place in Bangkok in early March. A great honour of the opening reception was a mention for International Milling Directories’ owner and publisher Perendale and Roger Gilbert was a boon for us all back in the office. When we found out the feedback and invitation to chair more CropTech-FeedTech conferences at more VIV events around the world was relayed back, we were all proud of this opportunity in thought leadership. The next event in this series Roger is attending will be in the Netherlands.

The next event draws closer all the time and our build up, tools and ambitions for IDMA in Turkey are very high. This is a bi-annual event in Istanbul will take place over four days and we decided to ship 10 boxes of the IMD to this exciting event. Our large presence will be part of marketing the IMD to returning and new Turkish members and they will be able to see and ask for information about participation in the new edition. On that topic, we are expecting to redesign and improve the functionality of the IMD this year which makes it the leading publication in handbooks for the international milling community.

New companies in the IMD this month: Kay International (India), Aciklar Un Sanayi (Turkey), Jiangsu Myande Food Machinery Co. Ltd. (China) and Dan Corn (Denmark).

I hope that renewal or registration of your company is something you are thinking about. It can be done very quickly and simply at www.internationalmilling.com.

IMD welcomes back its GEAPSers

Braving the snowy weather on the east coast, the International Milling Directory team has returned from its travels having made a big impression Stateside.

IMD co-ordinator Tom Blacker is not willing to go as far as to compare the trip’s success to The Beatles’s first American tour, but with hundreds of directories distributed and solid feedback from GEAPS exhibitors, he’s confident that next year’s edition will be the best one yet.

Tom was knocked for six by the number of IMD customers repeating their orders for listings and increasing their advertising prominence in the print and online editions. Have you got in touch with us about IMD 2013/4 yet? Visit our website now to update your listing, or register your company today!

International Milling Directory representatives are heading back across the Atlantic Ocean after the GEAPS Exchange 2013 ended on Tuesday. Exhibitors are catching planes and displays are being torn down.

Some GEAPS exhibitions were truly extraordinary

Some GEAPS exhibitions were truly extraordinary

The last day saw the usual mix of educational sessions and time for exhibition attendees to visit the stands and catch up with each other, and the late afternoon was given over to GEAPS’s Annual Meeting.

The 84th annual technical expo has been a success, with 2,372 visitors and a record-breaking number of exhibitors. We’re expecting our own delegates to be back any minute now, so watch this space for our own IMD co-ordinator Tom Blacker’s opinions of the show, its attractions and its attendees.

IMD enters GEAPS’s final day

Representatives from the International Milling Directory have been literally rushed off their feet in the last few days, covering every square inch of the Expo Hall at Louisville, Kentucky. From what this blogger (like Miss Moneypenny, still in rainy old England) can tell, IMD Co-ordinator Tom Blacker has made it his mission to meet personally all 2,800 visitors to GEAPS, and make his sales pitch to each of its 600 booths.

At GEAPS today? Have a rep in your company who is? Ask them to get down to Booth L6 (it’s near the entrance) and talk to Tom or Roger Gilbert (our proprietor) about the IMD. There’ll be copies of this year’s directory to browse through on-stand. Enlist your company in the 22nd International Milling Directory for as little as $20!

Cereals 2013 offers arable opportunities

The International Milling Directory (IMD) is happy to say that it will be at Cereals 2013, the UK’s leading show for agricultural technology.

IMD’s publisher Perendale was present at Cereals 2012

On 12th-13th June 26,000 visitors and 490 exhibitors will descend on Boothby Graffoe, near Lincoln, for business-to-business (b2b) opportunities, crop plots and live demonstrations, including ones in the natural habitat of the Syngenta Sprays and Sprayers Arena. With over 64 hectares of stands, visitors are sure to get a comprehensive rundown of the arable industry.

Hot topics on this year’s agenda include recovering from the awful weather hitting the UK in the last few months, driving business efficiencies and adapting to the challenges of Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) reform.

Charles Blessley, Case IH‘s UK and Ireland marketing manager, expects it to be a good exhibition for machinery manufacturers.

“Cereals attracts progressive large-scale farmers and operators, so it provides the ideal venue to showcase our range of technically advanced machinery. Since last year’s event we have introduced a number of exciting new products which will be on display at Cereals 2013.”

Marketing manager at New Holland, Richard Spencer, believes Cereals 2013 is an “ideal platform” to discuss business with customers.

“The event attracts the key decision-makers in the arable sector. Cereals offers a great opportunity for visitors to talk through the options, and our technical staff look forward to showing what we can offer.”

Lallemand aquires Microbial Developments Ltd.

International Milling Directory‘s member Lallemand aquires Microbial Developments Ltd in new developments for their transatlantic prospects. Microbial Developments Ltd are in Malven, Worcestershire; coincidentally nearby in an adjoining county to the IMD’s publisher’s head office – Perendale Publishers. Lallemand’s product range already goes beyond the scope of the IMD so we will be keeping a close interest in the impact this has in the feed industry.

Lallemand Animal Nutrition has announced that it has acquired Microbial Developments Ltd, the UK-based manufacturer of Aviguard, effective 31st December 2012.

Aviguard is a well established avian competitive exclusion product that aids the rapid establishment of normal gut flora in day old chicks thereby minimizing colonisation by transient pathogenic bacteria such as Salmonella, E. Coli and Clostridium perfringens. Aviguard is sold in over 36 countries and is widely used in broiler and layer breeders, parent and grandparent stock.

Lallemand has acquired Microbial Developments Ltd from Tim Nelson, who originally purchased the business from Bayer Plc in 1995 by way of a management buyout, and who will continue to act as its managing director. Sue Reynolds, sales and marketing director, will continue to manage Aviguard global distributor relationships and business development.

As part of the transaction Lallemand has also acquired Microbial Developments Ltd’s Aviguard and lactic acid bacteria fermentation plants, packing and R&D facilities located inMalvern,UK.  Under Lallemand’s ownership the business will continue to produce lactic acid bacteria for third party customers from the Malvern facility as well as producing bacteria for Lallemand’s own needs.

Commenting on the announcement, Yannig Le Treut, general manager of Lallemand Animal Nutrition said: “Aviguard is a well established and cost effective competitive exclusion solution used by many of the world’s leading poultry breeders and integrators to help prevent the colonization of the gut by salmonella and other pathogenic bacteria. With ever increasing consumer and regulatory pressures on the poultry industry to minimise the routine use of antibiotics, we believe Aviguard is well positioned for the future and will complement our existing portfolio of poultry products,  which includes Bactocell, Alkosel, Agrimos and Levucell SB”.

Tim Nelson, managing director of Microbial Developments Limited, said: “Lallemand’s investment in Microbial Developments is good news for our employees and customers. Lallemand’s distribution network will complement our existing distribution arrangements for Aviguard, opening new market opportunities. Our lactic acid bacteria and fermentation product customers will benefit from Lallemand’s fermentation expertise, R&D capabilities and depth of production capacity with the Malvern facility joining Lallemand’s existing plants in Milwaukee (USA), St Simon (France) and Montreal (Canada)”.
